Amateur questions - how to reduce DC amps ? Auto shut off?
  1. Can someone explain, (in simple language, I basically know little more than the names of various components) how to reduce DC amps? I want to heat a container of water in an automotive use. I have one of those cheap "heating coils" that you plug into the cigarette lighter outlet, and drop the coil into a mug of water to make instant... more »

help with GSM TDMA noise on board
the noise is coming from a cell phone which we use to transmit. No noise when its not transmitting. I located the actual chip on the board, an op amp, that injects the noise into the signal. Since it is from the cell phone GSM TDMA accessing (4.6 ms packets, looked it up on scope, 217 hz and its harmonics), I guess it is electromagnetic radiation. When I change to... more »

Is there better stuff than X10?
Is there anything better than this cheesy X10 stuff, something that is _not_ RF based like zigbee would be, and still affordable? The X10 protocol is not good and the modules are IMHO utter junk.

OT: Chrome plated brass shaft (blender)
Ok, the shaft of a Hamilton Beach blender seized. No more margarita :-( Mfg said too bad, it's just out of warranty. Bought another one, of course from a different brand. Margaritas are back :-) Took the old one apart and couldn't believe it: It looks like they chrome-plated the brass shaft, chrome flaked off in some areas and then... more »

MOSFET H Bridge
I have built the H bridge circuit at [link] but cannot get it to work. There is never any voltage across the bridge. I built the top left portion of the circuit on breadboard, and found that this was incapable of switching the motor on. With no load, when switched on the drain of the MOSFET was at full supply voltage, but... more »
