news:88d5ff98-decf-402e-8153-9a5ccc8d1631@c2g2000pra.googlegroups.com We recently moved, and unfortunatly several things got lost. I had a
great recipe to use if your dog gets sprayed by a skunk, and if I
recall, it had White Vinigar, Baking Soda, Lemon Juice & Hydrogen
Peroxide in it. (If anyone has the recipe, can you post it for me?)
Thank God none of my dogs ever had that problem, but my friend did!!
She and her DH were vacationing in Cape Cod, and their 1st day her son
called and said their Black Lab got sprayed by a skunk.
She said: "Don't let him in the house!"
Her son said: "Um...too late."
The dog had rolled on all the furnature, beds, carpets, etc. and
thoroughly 'perfumed' her home!! She called me, and I talked her son
through the recipe for the bath, and it got the smell out!! Her home
however, stunk for a month, and her in-laws visited a week after the
incident, in which she had to pay for a hotel during their stay.

Subject: getting rid of skunk odor
Those of you who have dogs who have had an up close and personal
encounter with a skunk know that there is absolutely nothing worse
than getting rid of the odor.
I just this morning, at 3:30 AM had another of those wonderful
encounters happen to one of our pups.
We live out in the country with a creek and a stock tank on our
property, though we have a six foot chain link fence around almost an
acre of it as the back yard for the pups there are times when skunks
come into the yard. This morning was such a happenstance and again the
pups got it in the face because they are curious. And they stick their
faces right in the skunks area of spray.
I am not asking for help in getting rid of the odor. I, after LONG
experience in dealing with this problem, know how to get rid [note I
said GET RID] of the odor. And I thought that some of you might like to
know what I have discovered.
First of all you are not dealing with an odor so much as you are dealing
with an oil based stain. As you know once you get an oil stain wet it
is almost impossible to remove with soap and water. So, there are two
approaches.
If the dog has not gotten wet, DO NOT BATHE HIM/HER.
Use a product call Clear Magic.
It is an automotive degreaser and it is NOT hazardous if
you do not spray it in the eyes. If the spray is on the face wet a
cloth with the Clear Magic and rub it into the spray. Keep reapplying
until the skin and fur is soaked. Then wash with shampoo and water.
Rinse thoroughly.
If the smell is still there then use Ryter's Odormute. They have a
formula for Skunk Odor, but the product is a miracle product. I have
used it for years to get rid of urine accidents as well as vomit and
fecal odors. It is incredible.
Anyway, mix up the Odormute according to directions and let it sit for
twenty minutes or so to dissolve. Bathe the dog using SHAMPOO, I use
Suave. It helps to strip the oil, though not the remaining odor, from
the hair. Then I rinse VERY WELL, this is vitally important as any
remaining soap on the hair will interfere with the odormute reaching the
odor. Then towel dry the dog and then pour the odor mute on the dog,
working it into the hair/fur until the skin and hair is drenched. DO
NOT RINSE IT OFF. Towel dry the dog, or blow dry, and if the smell is
still there repeat the Odormute, but do not bathe the dog again. You
can use as much Odormute as you need to, it will not harm the dog. Just
make sure you do not get it in the eyes.
Flush the eyes with a good eye wash product if the dog was sprayed in
the face. If you still smell the odor it is probable that the dog got
some inside his nostrils. Take a Q tip and dip it into the Odormute
solution and swab out the nostrils, carefully. If it is in the nostrils
you will continue [as will the dog] to smell the odor. There isn't
anything you can really do about that.
I do not have a financial stake in either Odormute or Clear Magic. I
do, however, have more than six dogs. And they all stick their noses
where they don't belong.
BTW Odormute is the BEST product for urine. It doesn't clean it up, it
destroys it on contact. If you have not used another product on an old
urine stain, it will immediately destroy the odor and help take up the
stain. It turns urine into carbon dioxide and water. There is no
urine, it is gone. This stuff is incredible. I use it on any organic
based problem.
I gave a package of it to each of the people who bought our last litter
of pups. They all were very impressed with it, when they bothered to
actually read the directions and follow them.
Odormute takes twenty minutes, or so, to dissolve completely in warm
water. It is active for four hours. Once you use it and it dries it
becomes dormant and is reactivated when it gets wet again. So if a dog
pees on the same location the Odormute will take care of it.
Since we live in Texas and it is hot and humid, places where the male
dogs have lifted their legs could become toxic if it weren't for the
odormute. I just mix it up and pour it on the posts on the back porch
and there is NO urine odor. EVER.
Both Clear-Magic and Odormute can be found on the internet.
