Dreamtime story?
Does anyone remember this short SF story? I think I read it around 1970 or so, maybe a bit later. A man is sailing through outer space between the stars. He sits in a little one-man open boat, sailing through the dreamtime. Above him, a gigantic gossamer sail cathes the slight pressure of light from... more »

Schild's ladder
Have you someone read Schild's ladder from Greg Egan? I haven't finished yet, but I want to ask you something: how did this 'Slowdown' work? I mean, whole planet was waiting for anyone who'd traveled until he got back. People changed their perception of the world so it didn't look strange to them, but how did they managed not to starve to death... more »

Amorality Tales
[link] July 20, 2008 Across the Universe Amorality Tales By DAVE ITZKOFF No matter how many of my remaining brain cells are eaten up by song lyrics or “Simpsons” catchphrases, there is one scene from a fantasy novel I shall never forget: Our hero has fallen in with a horde of... more »

The Girl Genius GURPS Prophecy
I finally found the comment about the Girl Genius Secret Blueprints reading like a Girl Genius character description: it was in a post by Douglas Muir on rec.arts.comics.misc on September 3, 2001: <begin quote> 1) I really liked the prequel issue, and it was certainly a good buy for $1.50. On rereading, though, it occurs to me that it reads a... more »

YASID: Fantasy series, College kid travels to magic land
I'm trying to remember the books. The main character of the last book I read, which I don't think was the first, is a college kid who teaches fencing, or maybe just tutors. Anyway, he gets into a fantasy world where swordfighting is a big thing. They make fun of him for his style, but he ends up winning a big fight based on the opponent... more »

Crowley Question
The new Crowley title, 'Solitudes' is being billed as a revised edition of the earlier novel, 'Aegypt'? Has anyone read the revised edition? Are the changes substantial enough to warrant a purchase? Thanks, Robo

Re-release? The Elric Sagas?
I already own most of Moorcock's Elric books. Browsing Amazon I noticed there are two new volumes called 'Stealer of Souls' and 'Rescue Tanelorn'. Are they mere repacking or is there something genuinely new in these books? Thanks, Robo

Possible Epic Movies of Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons
[link] It is a vast concept the Hyperion Cantos. I really can't see how it can be made to film. However, we will see.

Over 99% of The Road to Corlay
My copy of _The Road to Corlay_ is 239 pages long. Well, I should say that it was that long at some point, but I've just discovered that the sheet of paper that had pages 237 and 238 on it is missing. For this book, this situation is not a big deal, but it does lead to a question: For which SF novels would this situation be a big problem?... more »
